Livestock Takaful

Protection for the animals your livelihood depends on

For many families and businesses, animals are the main store of wealth. Livestock Mortality Takaful helps you recover the value of covered animals that die from accident, disease or natural perils such as fire, lightning and flood. Cover can be arranged for a herd, for trading stock held for sale or export, or for a farm, and the animals covered are named in your schedule.

Participants share risk through a common fund built on Tabarru' contributions, and the fund pays covered losses. Kalkaal manages the fund as Takaful operator for a disclosed Wakala fee.

FAQs

Which animals can be covered?

The animals covered are agreed with you and named in your schedule, along with how each animal is identified. Tell a Kalkaal advisor which animals you keep or trade, how many, where they graze or are held, and their purpose, such as breeding, milk or export. The advisor will explain whether they can be covered and on what terms.

Why do my animals need to be identified?

Each covered animal must be identifiable, so that a claim can be matched to an animal named in your schedule. This is usually done with ear tags, brands or other marks agreed with Kalkaal. Keep identification in place and up to date. If an animal dies, photograph its identification and keep the tag for your claim.

Are animals covered while they are transported for export?

Livestock Mortality Takaful covers animals at the locations and during the activities stated in your schedule. Cover while animals are moved by road or shipped is not automatic. Tell a Kalkaal advisor how, when and where your animals travel, so you can discuss whether transport can be added or whether a shipment belongs under Marine Takaful.
