FAQs

Good questions. Clear answers.

All your questions, answered
What is Takaful?

Takaful is cooperative protection. Participants contribute to a shared fund on the principle of Tabarru' (voluntary donation), and Kalkaal manages the fund and pays eligible claims under the policy terms.

How is Takaful different from conventional insurance?

Takaful rests on mutual cooperation rather than the transfer of risk for profit. Contributions are pooled in a shared fund, investments are Shariah-compliant, and a Shariah Supervisory Board oversees products and surplus.

What is Tabarru'?

Tabarru' is a voluntary donation. Each participant donates part of their contribution to the fund to help other participants who suffer a covered loss.

Link to this question
What is Wakala?

Wakala means agency. Participants appoint Kalkaal as their agent to manage the fund for an agreed fee, which is disclosed in your quotation and schedule.

What happens to any surplus?

Any surplus in the participants' fund is handled under the direction of the Shariah Supervisory Board and applicable regulation. It may be held as a reserve for future risks or distributed as decided. A surplus is never guaranteed.
