Comprehensive, third-party, or in between

Motor Takaful usually comes in three levels of cover. Your schedule shows which one you have.

Third-party cover protects you against your legal responsibility to other people. If you injure someone, or damage their vehicle or property in an accident you cause, the fund can meet that liability under the policy terms. It does not pay for damage to your own vehicle.

Third-party, fire and theft adds protection for your own vehicle if it is stolen or damaged by fire. Accidental damage to your own vehicle is still not covered.

Comprehensive cover includes everything above and also covers accidental damage to your own vehicle, whoever was at fault. It may include extra sections, such as windscreen damage, if your schedule lists them.

Choosing between them is a balance. Third-party cover usually asks for a smaller contribution but leaves you to carry the cost of repairing or replacing your own vehicle. Comprehensive cover asks for more but protects the vehicle as well. Think about what your vehicle is worth, how much you rely on it, and whether you could afford to replace it yourself.

Whatever you choose, read the schedule carefully. Named drivers, permitted use and the territory stated in your schedule all shape what is covered.
