The sections of medical cover

Medical Takaful helps meet the cost of treatment from the participants' risk fund. Most plans are built from sections, and your schedule shows which ones apply to you and the limit for each.

  • Inpatient: treatment that needs a hospital admission, such as surgery or an overnight stay
  • Outpatient: consultations, tests and medicines that do not need an admission
  • Dental: routine and some emergency dental treatment, if included
  • Optical: eye tests and glasses or lenses, if included
  • Maternity: pregnancy care and delivery, if included

Not every plan has every section. Many plans treat inpatient cover as the core, with the other sections added as options. Each section may have its own limit, and some may have a waiting period before you can claim. Your schedule and policy wording set these out.

When choosing a plan, think about how your household actually uses healthcare. A family with young children may visit a doctor often and value outpatient cover. Someone planning to have a child may want to read the maternity section closely. Matching the sections to real needs helps you choose cover you will use, and keeps contributions fair for everyone in the pool.
