Telling us about a loss
A claim is a request to the participants' risk fund to meet a loss that your cover protects. The first step is simple: tell Kalkaal as soon as you reasonably can after something happens. Your policy wording sets out any notice requirements, and a late report can make a loss harder to check.
Before you contact us, make sure everyone is safe and take sensible steps to stop the damage getting worse. If water is leaking, turn it off. If goods are exposed to rain, move them under cover if it is safe to do so. Your cover expects you to act as carefully as you would if you had no cover at all.
Where a crime may be involved, such as theft or a deliberate fire, report it to the police and note any reference they give you.
When you tell us about the loss, have these ready if you can:
- your schedule or policy number
- what happened, where and when
- who was involved, including any witnesses
- a rough idea of what was lost or damaged
Do not throw away damaged items or begin major repairs until we have had a chance to see them, unless you need to make something safe. Keep a record and receipts for any emergency spending.
